VISITOR FEEDBACK

TESTIMONIALS

"I am writing this letter to express my support for Dr. David A. Piper, a Master Artist in the area of Hand Drumming using the Jembe from the region of West Africa.  I have know Dr. Piper for more than 10 years, from the inception of the San Jose Black Theatre Workshop to his current endeavor of teaching and preserving an endangered African legacy through this newly formed organization, Jaliya.  His knowledge and expertise has provided a most needed service to our community by reestablishing our connection with the drum and the languages it speaks.  He has given his expertise and performances at many of our African centered celebrations and ceremonies, proving to be an invaluable source and resource in terms of the purpose, history and use of the drum and its connection to community building.

Dr. Piper has demonstrated in our Legacy and Drum Harmonics programs an extensive level of experience and competency in teaching our staff and program participants the almost forgotten role the drum and drumming has played in our history and our lives..."

"Thank you for your recent performance at our eight annual KKUP fundraiser. Your group contributed greatly to the success of our program. Jaliya is to be commended for its willingness and availability to participate in such community activities. Through the power of West African drumming, you represent what we in Silicon Valley view as the foundation of the origins of music, and clearly the origins of what we know of as Jazz. Paying homage to the original source is a privilege and honor to all who have come before you and will be for those that follow. We are thankful to Jaliya for representing the origins of Jazz, through the West African drum at our fundraiser.

The services provided are valued by our group in the amount of $450.00. We cannot adequately express our gratitude for your services at its current cost to our group; therefore, we wish to sincerely acknowledge your gracious donation of time and energy to our cause.

Thank you and best wishes for your continued work."

"Dear Jaliya and David,Evergreen Library was very happy to host your recent program on March 7th. We were truly overwhelmed by the kindnesses and generosity your group displayed to staff and to customers alike. I know the kids and parents enjoyed the doll making. The musical drumming was wonderful. I heard nothing but great things about the drum sounds emanating from our Community Room. In fact my boss (Branch Manager Angela McCarren) said that what she heard from her office was very energizing and conducive to what she had been working on that morning. I would definitely love to partner again with Jaliya perhaps on a yearly basis. The one thing I would have changed was the arrangement of the tables. I think next time I will make a u-shape with the tables so the littlest children can be on the floor enjoying the music. They like to move! These are things you learn only from doing. Hope to see you again before years’ end."

"Dear Jaliya, I would like to thank you for your wonderful performance at Sunnyvale Middle School today.  The students and staff enjoyed the performance tremendously. Your costumes and drumming skills brought to life Black History month. We look forward to having you back on our campus next year."
